Beat the Rush

“Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me. “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’” (Isaiah 45:21–23, ESV)

To all you unbelievers who are reading this piece as a courtesy to me, thank you. You are very kind, and society would benefit if more people acted the same way. If we were all polite, considerate of one another’s values and sensitive to one another’s feelings, then we would meet more often in the halls of polite discussion rather than on the field of battle. However, just because it is appropriate to be considerate of those with diverse beliefs, this does not mean that there is no objective right or wrong in the universe. There is indeed an objective right (a righteous One, in fact), and the time of politeness shall soon give way to objective rightness—and every knee shall bow (Phil. 2:9-10).

On that day, discussion will end, because every mouth will be stopped, and all people (the willing and unwilling alike) shall listen, watch and learn, as the Creator of the Universe states the conditions of the universe—that he alone is right. Then, every notion of relative truth shall melt away, and every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that he alone is true.

Please note the word every. Every does not mean only those who believe in God. Every includes atheists, Buddhists, humanists and people who were just too busy to bother with God. And since every person includes you, why not bend your knee now and beat the rush? Today you can affect your place in eternity. Tomorrow…who knows? This day might be your last, and it is simply too late to affect anything after you die. A true believer is one who has already bowed the knee. Indeed, that is what makes him true.

We true believers will not come under the judgment of condemnation again because we have already bowed to the judgment of the cross (Rom. 8:1). When the dying Jesus said, “It is finished” he declared that he had paid the price in full for our salvation (that’s what finished means), and if any person bows to that sacrifice, he has a future in heaven that is sure as God himself.

On that future judgment day, believers shall stand as witnesses before the sea of unbelievers who are all bowed before the Righteous Judge. He shall exact an accounting from all these who are condemned—even though they cannot then change their end. And not one will escape…in spite of every knee then bowing, and every tongue then confessing. So again I plead, please bow now and beat the rush. Do this today while this simple action can still save your soul. If you do, you will join us at the judgment as observers—not as the accused.
