It's What You Don't Do That Gets You

“Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.” (Hebrews 2:1–4, ESV)

Name one big huge heinous sin—one that will send you to hell. Murder? Rape? Extortion? Blasphemy? Thanks to Adam, pick any one…or even none! Because coming out of the womb is the only requirement for hell. Fathers have passed this sin nature down to their children since the expulsion from Eden, so nothing you do will send you to hell any more than anything else that you do. You are just plain going there…unless, of course, you have been proactive.

Proactive? What, like giving money to the poor, going to church—stuff like that? Nope. None of that cuts it. Those are good things, to be sure, but they will never get you into heaven. By being proactive, I mean finding out what God says about it. That makes sense, doesn’t it? Seeing what God’s take on this sin/heaven/hell thing is? After all, he’s…well…God.

Not only is he God, he’s no dope. Do you think he wants to leave any opening for people chiming out of hell, “It’s not fair! It’s not fair!” So, what he did is really amazing. Since the sentence to hell is so universal, so is the solution: Jesus Christ. All…and I repeat, allmust come through him for salvation. It’s easy, too. Realize you plight, your sad destiny and your inability to fix it. See Jesus for whom he is, the Savior of the world, the only acceptable sacrifice for sin. Ask him to save you, and he will for sure. Rest in him and let his sacrifice carry you to heaven. There! I told you it was easy.

Not convinced? As a testimony to every person, God has left his fingerprints all over the universe. For instance, he created us humans so wonderfully that our very abilities point to his design. Additionally, he sent Jesus who worked countless miracles as a testimony for all time. Jesus spoke. The prophets spoke. And you may speak. Ask, study—chase down the truth and accept no substitutes.

Not only has God sent Jesus and the prophets, he has also given us the written testimony of his Bible, detailing his righteousness as it played out over the millennia. Closer to home, we have the verbal testimony of those who have been saved by grace, and (perhaps) the subsequent changes in their lives. When you combine all of these advantages with the fact that he is more than a little inclined to help the earnest seeker, those who go looking for him will likely find him…which brings us back to proactivity.

If you do nothing—you lose. You lose big! And you lose forever. So, do not just sit there with your working eyes, your wonderful brain, and all the time God has allowed you. Get going. Pray, read, join with a Bible believing church. But first things first. Receive Jesus Christ as your Savior today. See the following link for all the details.
