Monday Musings for May 14, 2018

Good morning, Musers,

If you asked me to brainstorm 100 items that would probably never come up in this forum, testicles would have probably made my list… but guess what.

“No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 23:1, ESV)

Yes… today, I get to talk about testicles… and lists… and jewelry… and football — but as items that God has ostensibly made questionable judgments upon…. and frankly, I had forgotten that God even weighed-in on testicles! So, I guess the saying is true. God’s word… it’s fresh every day! But let me get to the point before you start thinking that a junior high boy highjacked my webpage.

Would you allow a testicularly-challenged man to enter your church building? … because, if you do, you might be offending God in the process! … but if you don’t… well… I’m not sure I even want to ask about your protocols.

If this sounds silly, it should. But these are the kinds of challenges foisted upon God in Sam Greenspan’s article 11 Things The Bible Bans, But You Do Anyway. A younger believer asked me to refute some of these arguments… which is the type of assignment I loathe. You see, this article is not worthy of an apologetics response… yet I have to spend the time on it. Argh!

That being said, it was entertaining… but in a you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-me kind of way. So, check it out if you dare… but it did give me a good platform to discuss logical fallacies like strawmanning and equivocation with a younger believer… and believe me… the opportunities were endless!
